Series 78 contains the agendas and minutes of the Senate meetings. The Senate, or its appointed faculty committees, routinely considered recommendations for new colleges, departments, programs, course requirements, and proposed curriculum changes. The Senate also approved the academic calendar, rule changes, and candidates for honorary degrees.

Superseding the General Assembly of the Faculty (See Series 81 ) in 1932, the University Senate was chartered as "the supreme legislative body of the University."
